Chairman of the National Assembly(Milli Majlis) of Azerbaijan Mr. Ogtay Asadov paid an official visit to the Republic of Korea

Chairman of the National Assembly(Milli Majlis) of Azerbaijan Mr. Ogtay Asadov paid an official visit to the Republic of Korea on June 24-28, 2017.

In the framework of his official visit to Korea Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov has met his Korean counterpart Chung Sye-kyun.

Chung Sye-kyun stressed the importance of reciprocal visits in terms of development of bilateral relations between the two countries, saying Speaker Ogtay Asadov`s visit to Korea will open new opportunities for further expansion of cooperation.

Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea Chung Sye-kyun touched upon the inter-parliamentary ties, adding activity of the friendship groups contribute to boosting cooperation between the legislative bodies of both countries.

On wide opportunities for cooperation Chung Sye-kyun said bilateral experience exchange positively influenced to further development of Azerbaijani-Korean economic cooperation.

Ogtay Asadov, in turn, praised relations between Azerbaijan and Korea in political, economic and cultural fields. He stressed the importance of reciprocal visits of the heads of the states in deepening ties between the two countries.

On relations in economic field, Speaker Ogtay Asadov said great potential of both countries creates opportunity for further increasing trade turnover. On importance of the activity of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, the Speaker said this commission plays an important role in deepening bonds.

Mr. Asadov hailed relations between the two countries in humanitarian field, and stressed the imporptance of arranging the days of culture and student exchange.

On June 26, 2017 Mr. Asadov met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Mr. Lee Nak-yeon.

Korea supports further deepening cooperation with Azerbaijan in various fields of economy, said Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon as he met Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the Azerbaijani delegation`s visit to Korea, expressing confidence that both sides will support further development of cooperation.

Lee Nak-yeon said there is great potential for boosting economic cooperation and thanked the Azerbaijani side for supporting Korean companies operating in the country.

Ogtay Asadov, in turn, praised Azerbaijani-Korean relations, and highlighted development of bonds across the last 25 years. He stressed the importance of reciprocal visits in strengthening these ties.

On importance of the activity of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, the Speaker said arranging the regular business meetings among the businessmen will serve to expansion of cooperation. Mr. Asadov touched upon the activity of the Korean companies operating in Azerbaijan.

The speaker highlighted the energy and transport projects carried out with the initiative of Azerbaijan, as well as the projects` importance for Europe.

On June 26-28, 2017 Mr. Asadov has participated at the 2nd Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments in Seoul. In his speech at the Meeting, he has expressed his confidence that concerted efforts of parliaments of Eurasian countries may bring about solution to regional problems, including the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“Parliaments have great responsibility for addressing the problems and conflicts we all face,” said Asadov as he addressed the 2nd Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

He called on parliaments to spare no efforts to establish peace and security in Eurasia, including in the South Caucasus.

Asadov drew the audience`s attention to Armenia`s military aggression against Azerbaijan. “Twenty per cent of our territories are under occupation, and more than a million Azerbaijanis live as refugees and IDPs as a result of this conflict.” “For many years Azerbaijan has been urging the international community to establish justice and ensure the implementation of documents and resolutions of international organizations. In this context I would like to reiterate the necessity of ensuring the implementation of four resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council back in 1993, a resolution of the UN General Assembly adopted in 2008, and a resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in 2005, as well as many other resolutions by other international organizations,” said Asadov.

He expressed his confidence that finding a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and other similar problems and disputes will contribute to ensuring peace, stability, justice and security in Eurasia.
